Cavinti Underground River & Caves Complex – Cavinti
The Cavinti Underground river and caves compex is one of the newest ecotourism destinations the province of Laguna.It is located in Brgy. Paowin in the municipality of Cavinti. According to the tourism office of Cavinti, it is their most promoted tourist destination. The registration and orientation are both done at Bumbungan Ecopark, a man-made ecopark that used to be a main road before the water completely took over the it, forming a picturesque falls.
The underground river and cave complex is dicovered by Mr. Gardo Sanchez, a local resident and farmer. According to Kuya Bunso, one of the tour guides at the caves complex, Mang Gardo accidentally discovered the opening of the cave when he was collecting pieces of wood for charcoal making. Then, on March 22, 2011, the municipality of Cavinti initiated an exploration of the caves complex. Finally, on March 30, 2013, they opened it to the public as a prime ecotourism destination.
Pueblo El Salvador Cavinti Nature’s Park and Picnic Grove – Cavinti
The Pueblo El Salvador eco adventure site is the main gateway to Cavinti falls, there’s also a picnic grove site near the top of the falls, and also you can have your picnic anywhere around the eco park.
Mount Makiling – Los Baños
Mount Makiling, or Mount Maquiling, is a dormant volcano located on the border of Laguna province and Batangas on the island of Luzon, Philippines. The mountain rises to an elevation of 1,090 m (3,580 ft) above mean sea level and is the highest feature of the Laguna Volcanic Field. The volcano has no recorded historic eruption but volcanism is still evident through geothermal features like mud spring and hot springs. South of the mountain is the Makiling-Banahaw Geothermal Plant. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) classifies the volcano as “potentially active”.
Matabuncca Falls and Tatlong Krus, Paete
In the town of Paete, famous for its woodcrafts, is a hill called Tatlong Krus, with a refreshing Matabungka Falls cascading from its slopes. This hill is also identified as the Mt. Humarap of Paete since it faces the town as well as Laguna de Bay – but this label is disputed by some locals who say Mt. Humarap is elsewhere.
Likewise, locals simply call Matabungka Falls as ‘Talon’, the generic Tagalog term for waterfall. What is clear, however, that this place is another wonderful destination in Laguna’s eastern side. Tatlong Krus is a local pilgrimage spot, frequented during Holy Week.
It is also a picnic place for the local youth. Basic facilities such as huts and comfort rooms have been installed. The three crosses themselves face north, fronting the town of Paete beneath, then Laguna de Bay, and finally Mt. Sembrano. The peak of Mt. Tagapo can also be identified.
Mt. Ping-as – Pakil
Located in the town of Pakil, the eastern portion of Laguna lies Mt. Ping-as which is situated in the ranges of Sierra Madre mountain. The peak is about 1650 feet above the sea level with an ascent of about 1100 feet from the jump off point with several 45 degree slope that passes through a cemented road and shady path. After a 900 feet ascent through a pavement road, one will reach the arc that leads to the site of Mt. Ping-as’ Holy Cross which consists of 250 steps.
Panguil River Eco-Park Ambon-Ambon Falls – Pangil
Panguil River Eco-Park is a camping haven, perfect for campers and backpackers out there. The resort houses swimming pools, camping and activity grounds, water tubing, massage services, and trails to waterfalls. Trails to Ambon-ambon Falls, Biak na Bato Falls, and Buntot Palos Falls could be accessed here.
Tayak Nature and Adventure Park (Tayak Hill) – Rizal
Tayak Hill is situated in Rizal, right beside Mt. San Cristobal. Dubbed as the Biker’s Heaven of Laguna, the hill is a frequent destination to bikers and pilgrims alike. A short uphill walk and one will be at the windy peak and see two crosses, a view of Laguna upfront, and a view of Mt. San Cristobal behind.
